Buffalo’s Economy Ranked Seventh Strongest in the Country
Posted on July 20, 2010 · Leave a CommentMid-size cities get a bad reputation. In Buffalo, you have probably heard some good-natured ribbing like, “There’s nothing going on in Buffalo besides the Bills football team.” Well, the next time someone says that, please be sure to respond with, “Obviously, you don’t read the BusinessWeekly very often.”
BusinessWeekly has ranked the Buffalo-Niagra Metro Area #7 on its list of America’s Strongest Economies for 2010.
Some of the attributes that stood out for Buffalo were:
- 17,400 online ads for jobs in June, up 25% from last year
- staffing giant Manpower’s third quarter survey indicated Buffalo had the number one job prospect outlook
and
Did I mention that Niagra Falls is one of the popular tourist attractions in the United States?
Buffalo Sabres Ranked #5 on Most Intimidating Teams of All-Time
Posted on July 19, 2010 · Leave a CommentHockey is one of the only sports, besides boxing itself, where fighting is considered “part of the game”.
No one knew that part of the game better than the 1992 Buffalo Sabres. Buffalo, New York has always been considered a hard-working, blue collar town, but their NHL team took that image to a new level in the early 90’s.
Askmen.com named the 1992 Sabres as one of the Top 10 Most Intimidating Teams of All-Time.
No team had ever
- amassed more penalty minutes in a season
- had separate players (3) with more than 300 penalty minutes each
- been home to a player who’s habit of fighting with his shirt off
The Rob Ray Rule was instituted by the NHL to prevent any other player from taking off his shirt while engaged in “fisticuffs”.
You gotta love a sports league that calls fighting “fisticuffs” in its rulebook. You gotta love the ‘92 Sabres.
Going Green Tip of the Week: Instead of Driving Through, Walk In
Posted on July 15, 2010 · Leave a Comment
Changing your habits at the drive-in can also change the environment and help in your quest to "Go Green".
There are many ways to join the Go Green Pennsylvania movement, but did you know that not running your engine idly can help?
E Square Capital, did you know that letting your engine run for more than 30 seconds without moving burns more gas than restarting your car?
Instead of going through a drive through restaurant and waiting to receive your food, walk in and order your food. Not only will you save energy and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide you emit by walking in, but the exercise your body gets from taking the time will make you feel great.
Try this the next time you get the urge for something hot from your favorite drive-through restaurant. Tell a friend if you noticed any difference.
Buffalo will “Dial M for Movie” on July 14

Alfred Hitchcock's classic film "Dial M for Murder" will be one of the many films shown in Buffalo for the Movies on the Meadow summer series.
Buffalo will bring a classic film to its Movies on The Meadow summer series at The Parkside Lounge.
“Dial M for Murder” directed by British filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock will be featured on July 14. Alfred Hitchcock is considered the founder of the film genre “psychological thriller“. Hitchcock had the rare ability to take otherwise normal situations and make them terrifying due to the suspense of not knowing what may happen next. Some of his films that used this technique include:
- To Catch A Thief
- Psycho
and
- The Birds
For instance, in “The Birds”, Hitchcock basically made a frightening movie based off the concept of regular city birds suddenly deciding that they didn’t like being fed bread crumbs anymore. “Dial M for Murder” was adapted from a play and is considered one of Hitchcock’s best films.
Showtime stars at 8PM. The Parkside Lounge is located inside of Delaware Park in downtown Buffalo.
Buffalo Rookie C.J. Spiller Looks Like Bills Legend
Posted on July 8, 2010 · Leave a CommentThurman. It is not a very common name, but when you say it in the city of Buffalo, it rings bells. Former running back Thurman Thomas is probably considered neck-to-neck with quarterback Jim Kelly as the best Buffalo Bills player of all time. Thomas helped the Bills reach for Super Bowls in a row during the early 90’s.
The Bills have struggled to make the NFL playoffs since the days of Thurman “Thermal” Thomas, but we may have reason to smile again in Buffalo thanks to the arrival of rookie of the year hopeful running back C.J. Spiller.
The Bills picked C.J. in the 2010 NFL Draft with their first pick.
Spiller arrives in Buffalo after nearly winning the Heisman Trophy for the nation’s best college player at Clemson University. Spiller is almost the same height and weight that Thurman Thomas played at. Even more uncanny? He has the same speed, moves, and could possibly be an even better pass catcher than Thurman. This may be saying a lot, but the following video entitled “C.J. Spiller -The next great Buffalo Bill” may convince you.

There are many great events taking place this summer in Buffalo, but don’t be the one person in Buffalo that everyone asks, “Why didn’t I see you at the Taste this weekend?”
